Showmax is gearing up for a blockbuster movie month in May, with the addition of some of the biggest box office hits from 2023 to its library, including “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Fast X,” and several other anticipated titles.

Leading the stacked lineup of new premieres is “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning biopic about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb. The film, which hits Showmax on May 6, took home seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of the title role.

On May 22, Showmax will be the first streaming platform to offer “Barbie,” last year’s record-breaking comedy smash. Starring Margot Robbie, the Greta Gerwig-directed film earned over $1 billion globally and seven Oscar nominations, cementing its status as a cultural phenomenon.

Other major movie premieres coming to Showmax in May include:

  • “Trolls Band Together” (May 16) – The animated musical comedy sequel reuniting Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.
  • “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” (Streaming now) – The well-received animated reboot featuring Paul Rudd and an all-star voice cast.
  • “Mr. Bones 3: Son of Bones” (May 3) – The latest comedy sequel starring South African icon Leon Schuster.
  • “Retribution” (May 20) – Liam Neeson stars in this thriller as a father caught in a deadly game.
  • “A Good Person” (May 9) – Morgan Freeman and Florence Pugh lead the cast of this drama.
  • “Fast Charlie” (May 27) – Crime caper headlined by Pierce Brosnan and Morena Baccarin.
  • “Inside” (May 23) – Psychological thriller with Willem Dafoe as an art thief trapped in a penthouse.

The diverse slate covers multiple genres from some of the most popular movies released in 2023 across the globe. Showmax’s packed May lineup provides viewers a chance to catch up on many of last year’s biggest theatrical hits from the comfort of home.
