Nollywood filmmaker Uduak-Obong Patrick is challenging long-held perceptions of the Nigerian Police Force in his latest film “Force Empire”.
The film released in August 2024, offers a fresh perspective on law enforcement by humanizing officers and exploring the internal struggles they face.
In an exclusive interview with “The Nollywood Reporter”, Patrick revealed his motivation behind the project: “The Nigerian Police Force is one of the most disliked institutions, but they are still human. My goal was to portray the good and the bad, showing officers as individuals with their own stories, while also addressing the systemic issues they face.”
“Force Empire” delves into issues such as police brutality, sexual harassment, and corruption, all while attempting to present a balanced view of officers dedicated to their duty.
Patrick explained that the film’s aim is to “create a space for empathy,” without shying away from the serious issues plaguing the police force.
The film is part of a growing trend in Nollywood to tackle controversial subjects and push for social change, using film to engage audiences and spark critical conversations about justice in Nigeria.
