“Sinners” to Receive Ensemble Tribute at Gotham Film Awards
Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed horror film Sinners will receive the Ensemble Tribute at the 35th annual Gotham Film Awards, scheduled for December 1 in New York City.
The tribute celebrates the film’s ensemble cast, led by Michael B. Jordan in dual roles and featuring Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Buddy Guy, Li Jun Li, and Delroy Lindo, among others. Sinners will be honored alongside Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which is set to receive The Gotham Vanguard Tribute.
Produced by Warner Bros., Sinners was written and directed by Coogler. Set in 1932 Mississippi, the film follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown of Clarksdale after seeking success in the North. Their dream of reviving their community through a juke joint is soon threatened by a sinister presence that tests their faith, family, and legacy.
Blending themes of music, culture, and history with supernatural horror, Sinners has been praised for its depth and atmosphere. Released on April 18, the film has grossed more than $366 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing original horror films of all time. It is also the first original live-action Hollywood release to surpass $200 million domestically since Gravity in 2013.
The Gotham Awards’ Ensemble Tribute recognizes casts whose performances and chemistry elevate storytelling on screen. Previous recipients include Moonlight, Babel, Fire Island, and The Piano Lesson.
Nominees for this year’s competitive Gotham Award categories will be announced on October 28.
