The Lagos launch in August will kickstart Africa’s first female-focused platform for creatives.
Tems Launches “Leading Vibe” to Empower African Women in Music
Grammy-winning artist Tems has launched Leading Vibe, an initiative aimed at empowering young women in Africa’s music and creative industries.
As the continent’s first dedicated platform of its kind, Leading Vibe will provide mentorship, tools, funding, and career support to help female creatives thrive.
Inspired by her journey as a self-taught artist, Tems created the initiative to address the industry’s gender imbalance and build structured pathways for women across roles such as producers, engineers, writers, and artists.
“There are thousands of young women like me with a gift, a voice, and a desire to be heard,” said Tems in a statement. “While the music industry is great, there hasn’t always been space for women—creators, producers, engineers, and writers. That’s why I’m starting Leading Vibe—for the ones who believe, dare to be different, dream to be seen, and aren’t afraid to lead. It’s a movement, a network, and a wave—for women, by women, from the continent to the world.”
The Lagos launch, scheduled for August, will feature a two-day seminar with workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions focused on nurturing emerging talent. Participants will receive hands-on training in areas such as songwriting, production, and industry navigation, with opportunities to network with top professionals through curated meet-and-greet sessions.
Applications are now open to women artists, producers, and songwriters aged 18 to 35 based in Nigeria. The application deadline is July 13.
