Tems, Wizkid, Oxlade Among Honorees of Spotify’s Greatest R&B Songs of the Streaming Era

Spotify Classics has unveiled its list of the 100 Greatest R&B Songs of the Streaming Era, and several Afrobeats stars have been recognized for their contributions to the genre.

The list, which consists of songs released since 2015 that have accumulated over 43 billion streams worldwide, was curated based on “criteria such as quality, impact, replay value, influence, and cultural significance,” according to a press release from Spotify.

Afrobeats superstars Tems, Wizkid, and Oxlade have all earned spots on the prestigious list. Wizkid’s global hit “Essence” with Tems ranks at No. 21, while his duet with Chris Brown, “Call Me Everyday,” secures a spot at No. 70.

Tems’ RIAA-certified singles, “Free Mind” and “Higher,” have also been recognized, ranking at No. 29 and No. 45, respectively. Oxlade’s breakout hit “Ku Lo Sa,” which gained worldwide popularity and traction on TikTok, rounds out the Afrobeats representation at No. 88.

Other Afrobeats artists who made the list include Grammy winner Tyla with “Water” at No. 75 and Libianca’s “People” at No. 99.

The list also features a diverse array of R&B stars, including SZA, Solange, Beyoncé, Ella Mai, Daniel Caesar, Summer Walker, Bryson Tiller, H.E.R, and Rihanna, who have all scored multiple entries.
