The Conjuring: Last Rites” Leads Nigerian Box Office With ₦31 Million Debut
Nigerian audiences have once again shown interest in horror films, as The Conjuring: Last Rites debuted at the top of the box office.
The ninth and final installment in The Conjuring franchise earned ₦31.6 million in its three-day opening weekend (excluding Thursday previews), according to Nigerian Box Office on X.
That total was 67 percent higher than The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which grossed ₦18.9 million over the same period.
In the 2025 context, Last Rites ranks behind Ryan Coogler’s Sinners with its record ₦100 million Easter debut and Final Destination: Bloodlines at ₦47 million. Still, it outperformed Weapons, which opened with ₦18.8 million.
Globally, the Michael Chaves-directed film posted a $194 million opening, setting a new record for horror debuts and surpassing the $189 million mark achieved by It in 2017.
While not the biggest R-rated horror launch in Nigeria this year, the film highlights a growing preference for the genre among local audiences.
