The grind never stops in the Nigerian movie industry and with the heralding of a new year comes a reciprocal roster of new movies. While a lot of streaming services like Netflix, Showmax, and Amazon Prime Video have rolled out their list of films for the year, others are still kept under wraps until official announcements are made.

While you’re adding films to your bucket list, look out for Contrast, a realistic take on the highs and lows of marriage in the Gen Z era. Ayobami Oyinkan “Oyita” Ojo serves as the film’s producer while the multi-talented JBlaze takes up the mantle of director.

TNR sat down with JBlaze once again to discuss this upcoming project and he gave us the inside scoop on what Contrast is all about.

“Contrast is a story about a social media-savvy lady who left the UK to marry the man of her dreams in Nigeria. Gradually, as the relationship progresses, she realizes that showcasing her life to the public is causing a rift in her marriage. Her new husband is a private person so there’s this contrast in their personalities. She always wants to go live to show her fans what she’s doing but he likes to keep things lowkey.”

The trials in the newlywed’s marriage don’t end there as incidents such as a car accident, miscommunication, and mental health problems threaten to break the marriage apart. “It’s a coming-of-age story that is well portrayed by the actors, and it will resonate well with audiences.”

Oyita doubles as both a producer and actor in the film. She is joined by a host of other talents like Deyemi Okanlawon, Tina Mba, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni” Adedayo, Lizzy Jay, and Yvonne Jegede.

When asked about the film’s premiere date JBlaze stated that there is no official word from the producers yet. “It’s just one of those projects that you do and the producers have their plans. Those plans are also dependent on the outcome of the project.”

Principal photography took place in Nigeria and the UK.
