Tyler Perry is back in the film studio, set to write and direct a new tense drama titled “Straw” for Netflix, marking his second official collaboration with the streaming giant following “Mea Culpa.”
Perry confirmed the news on Instagram with the caption, “If we don’t show up for us then who will?” accompanied by the film’s title hashtag.
“Straw” centers around a single mother who finds herself entangled in an unforeseen situation and becomes the “center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence” as she struggles to break free.
The film boasts a powerhouse cast led by Emmy winners Taraji P. Henson and Sherri Shepherd, alongside singer and actress Teyana Taylor. Joining them are Sinbad, Glynn Turman, Rockmund Dunbar, Mike Merrill, and Ashley Versher.
In addition to writing and directing duties, Perry will also produce “Straw” alongside Angi Bones and Strickland under the Tyler Perry Studios banner.
Perry’s first Netflix project, the thriller “Mea Culpa,” topped the streamer’s English Films chart and remained in the top ten for several weeks following its February 2024 release.
After “Straw,” Perry has more exciting projects lined up with Netflix, including directing and producing the drama series “Beauty in Black” and the war film “The Six Triple Eight” starring Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey.
While a release date for “Straw” is yet to be announced, anticipation is already building for Perry’s latest collaboration with the streaming giant and its star-studded cast.
