Reboots of classic sitcoms are making a comeback in 2024, and it seems that Disney Channel finally got the memo. The reboot of the Disney Channel hit sitcom “Wizards of Waverly Place” is finally happening after being in development hell since 2017.

Titled “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” the reboot series will unite old cast members with new faces in a nostalgic comedy like no other. David Henrie will reprise his iconic role as Justin Russo, and Selena Gomez will make a guest appearance in the first episode as Alex Russo, Justin’s chaotic younger sister. Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, Max Manteko, Janice LeAnn Brown, and Taylor Cora will join the cast as new faces to be introduced to audiences.

It is unclear whether the other original cast members of “Wizards of Waverly Place” − Jennifer Stone, Jake T. Austin, David DeLuise, and Maria Canals-Barrera – will be joining the reboot.

Details on the plot for “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” are still under wraps, but the series will air later in 2024 on Disney Channel and its streaming service Disney+.

The reboot series is executive-produced by Henrie, Gomez, Jed Elinoff, Scott Thomas, Andy Fickman, and Gary Marsh.

“Wizards of Waverly Place,” first premiered on Disney Channel in 2007. It ran for four seasons and followed the life of the Russos, a Hispanic family living in Manhattan, who seemingly appear to be normal, but are far from it; they are wizards. The series primarily centers on the lives of the teenage Russo siblings−Justin (Henrie), Alex (Gomez), and Max (Austin)−as they try to balance the chaos of high school with concealing their identity from the world.
