Wizkid’s sixth studio album, “Morayo”, has set a remarkable record on Spotify Nigeria, driving the platform to achieve 21.1 million streams on November 22.
This milestone marks the highest single-day streaming total ever recorded in the Nigerian market, surpassing the previous high of 13.5 million streams set on August 9, 2024.
The feat catapulted Nigeria to 13th place on Spotify’s global daily streams chart, its highest position to date. It also makes Nigeria one of only 22 countries to see its top 200 songs garner over 20 million streams in a single day.
Released on November 22, “Morayo” was the driving force behind the achievement. According to Spotify Stats, an unofficial tracker, the 16-track album amassed 16.2 million streams on its debut day, making it the largest debut for an African album in Spotify history, as confirmed by ChartData. Globally, “Morayo” debuted at No. 3 on the Global Spotify Albums Chart.
While streams dipped to 8.3 million on day two and 6.6 million on day three, the album’s total within its first three days reached 31.9 million. This surpassed Asake’s record for the highest first-week streams by an African album (18.9 million) in just three days.
With “Morayo”, Wizkid now dominates the Nigerian Spotify chart, occupying the top 14 spots for the largest daily streaming peaks. The album’s impact underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in the global music streaming landscape, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the industry.
