Faithia Williams leads the cast of the upcoming Yoruba-language historical drama Efunroye: The Unicorn, which is set for nationwide cinema release on May 1, 2026. The film explores the life and legacy of Efunroye Tinubu, a 19th-century merchant and political figure in colonial-era Nigeria.

The project recently released its official trailer, offering the first look at the historical epic. It follows Tinubu’s rise from her early life as a market trader near Abeokuta to her marriage to the exiled Prince Adele and her eventual influence in Lagos politics and commerce.

The film presents her as a powerful figure who shaped leadership structures within Lagos and played a key role in trade networks across Yorubaland. It also highlights her influence in determining succession and political outcomes within the region.

Set in the 19th century, the story is told in Yoruba and draws heavily from historical and cultural context. It explores themes of power, legacy, and authority within colonial-era Nigeria while maintaining a strong cultural and linguistic grounding.

Produced by Faithia Williams alongside Niyi Akinmolayan, Diran Adeyinka, and Kemi Anibaba, the film is directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami. It is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.

The cast features a large ensemble including Faithia Williams, Saidi Balogun, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Chatta, Femi Adebayo, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Femi Branch, Layi Wasabi, Mercy Aigbe, Eniola Ajao, Foluke Daramola, and Ibrahim Yekini.

Efunroye: The Unicorn is scheduled to debut in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026.
