Nigerian music stars Asake, Rema, and Wizkid have secured nominations for the 2025 American Music Awards. They are joined by Grammy winners Tyla and Tems in the fiercely competitive Best Afrobeats category.

Asake has had an exceptional year in music. In the summer of 2024, he released his third studio album, “Lungu Boy,” to critical acclaim. This earned him a Grammy nomination at the 67th ceremony.

Rema continues to dominate the international stage, with performances around the globe, including appearances at Coachella 2025. His latest single “Bout U” remains a global hit, climbing Nigerian and international charts. It recently debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard U. S Afrobeats Songs Charts.

Wizkid released his sixth studio album, “Morayo,” in 2024 to generally positive reviews. The project peaked at No. 1 in multiple countries and made Wizkid the first African act in history to have all songs from a single album chart on the Billboard U.S Afrobeats Songs Chart for eight consecutive weeks.

Nigerian singer Tems earned her second Grammy award at the 67th ceremony thanks to her hit single “Love Me Jeje” from her debut studio album, “Born in the Wild”. While she has not released new music recently, Tems has been touring the world, attending red-carpet events, and is now an ownership partner of a football club.

South African songstress Tyla has also not released new music since the deluxe version of her debut album–”Tyla+”–hit streaming services, but she remains a formidable force in the Afrobeats scene. Her single, “Push 2 Start,” has now spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard U.S Afrobeats Songs Charts. Its predecessor, the double platinum hit “Water,” currently holds the No. 2 spot and has remained on the charts for an astonishing 86 weeks. Tyla also performed at Coachella 2025 to rave reviews.

Notably, Tyla has also received a nomination for Favorite Female R&B Artist, where she will compete against industry heavyweights like SZA, Muni Long, Summer Walker, and Kehlani.
