Toyin Abraham’s comedy “Alakada: Bad and Boujee” has crossed a major milestone at the Nigerian box office, grossing ₦14.2 million over the weekend (January 24–26).
This brings the film’s total earnings to ₦460.9 million after its sixth weekend in cinemas, overtaking 2016’s “The Wedding Party” and securing its spot as the fifth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
The fifth installment in the “Alakada” franchise has been a box office sensation since its release, with Toyin Abraham thanking the Nigerian audience for their support.
“The journey to beat my last record started immediately we were done with the production of “Alakada”. Yes, I wanted to do well in the box office, but beating my last record and almost doubling it will be better than just doing well… “Alakada: Bad and Boujee” selling ₦460M is a sweet record. Thank you to everyone who has seen this movie, thank you and God bless,” Abraham wrote on X.
“Alakada: Bad and Boujee” made ₦6.6 million in previews and opened with ₦52 million over its opening weekend, ranking just behind “Everybody Loves Jenifa” and “Mufasa”. By its first week, the film had already outpaced the earnings of the previous “Alakada” film, “Fate of Alakada”, which grossed ₦113 million during its entire run.
Alongside “Alakada: Bad and Boujee”, “The Waiter” also made its mark on Nollywood’s all-time top ten. Produced and starring Ayo Makun, the film earned ₦337.8 million after its sixth weekend, securing the tenth spot on the list.
