Spotify is introducing a new label to help listeners identify music profiles built around AI-generated identities, as the streaming platform takes further steps to separate artificial artiste personas from human musicians.

Beginning in mid-September, selected artiste profiles, search results, and playlist track listings will carry an “AI Persona” badge when the public identity behind the profile, including its name and visual image, is generated by artificial intelligence.

The move follows growing concerns from listeners about realistic AI-generated artistes appearing on streaming platforms without clear disclosure.

Artistes Can Declare Their AI Status

Spotify will allow creators to voluntarily identify themselves as AI personas through the Spotify for Artistes dashboard. However, the company said it will also conduct its own checks. Its review team will monitor profiles, with particular attention given to photorealistic AI identities that attract significant audiences.

If Spotify applies the label to a profile, the account owner will be informed. They can accept the classification or challenge it through an appeal. Listeners who click on the badge will also be able to see whether the label was added by the creator or applied following Spotify’s review. The platform plans to introduce a reporting option in the coming months, allowing users to flag profiles they believe may be AI-generated.

AI Personas to Be Left Out of Recommendations

Spotify also said profiles marked as AI Personas will not automatically appear in its editorial or algorithmic recommendations. Unless a listener deliberately follows an AI persona, the profile will be excluded from personalized recommendation feeds. Spotify said the policy is aimed at giving human artistes greater room to build audiences and sustainable careers.

The company clarified that the new badge focuses on the identity of the artiste profile, rather than whether AI was used to create a particular song. For that distinction, Spotify continues to use features such as AI Credits and SongDNA, which provide information about the use of AI tools in music production and the people involved in making a track.

Spotify Expands Its Artistes Trust Tools

The AI Persona badge is part of a wider set of features Spotify has introduced in 2026 to improve trust and transparency on the platform. Its Verified by Spotify mark identifies confirmed human artistes and has already been added to hundreds of thousands of profiles.

Artistes  Profile Protection allows musicians to review and approve releases linked to their profiles, helping prevent false credits and profile takeovers. Spotify also uses AI Credits and SongDNA to provide more information about how songs are made, while Artistes  Details gives listeners automatically generated information about an artiste’s releases, tours and career activity.

With the new AI Persona system, Spotify is placing clearer boundaries between human musicians and AI-generated identities as artificial artistes become more common across the streaming industry.
