Burna Boy Scores Seven Nominations at the BET Hip-Hop Awards

The African Giant goes head-to-head with Cardi B, 21 Savage, Drake, and DJ Khaled for top honors.

Burna Boy is the only Nigerian artist to be nominated this year for the BET Hip-Hop Awards, and he is competing in the various categories, including Lyricist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Hip-Hop Artist of the Year with American acts like Cardi B, Drake, 21 Savage, J. Cole, and Lil Durk.

 

American rappers 21 Savage and Cardi B top the leaderboard with 12 nominations each, not too far behind is Drake with 9 nods, then Burna Boy and DJ Khaled with seven nods each.

 

The show will tape in Atlanta on Oct.3, but it will premiere on the BET Network on Oct.10.

 

On the award show, Connie Orlando, BET’s EVP specials, music programming, & music strategy said in a statement: “This year’s BET Hip Hop Awards will mark the culmination of our yearlong celebration of hip-hop’s storied creation and the art form’s sonic and cultural expansion. We are honored by this year’s roster of nominees as they continue to carry the creativity and diversity of hip hop into the future. We congratulate each nominee on their accomplishments as they take hip hop artistry to new heights.”

 

More information on voting, live performances, and other honors will be announced on the BET website.
