Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced that part of the highly anticipated second season of “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre” will be filmed in Ghana. This strategic decision aligns with the “Shoot in Ghana” campaign, which the National Film Authority (NFA) of Ghana initiated.
Afolayan made the announcement during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where he was a distinguished guest. The Nigeria International Film and TV Summit, also held at Cannes, served as the platform for revealing his plans to shoot portions of Anikulapo in Ghana.
The collaboration was facilitated by Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority, who expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “This initiative represents a significant opportunity for both countries to leverage each other’s strengths and explore new markets,” she said. Asante highlighted the potential of the project to strengthen the longstanding film relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Afolayan’s commitment extends beyond filming; his film school, KAP Academy, will provide training during the shoot, offering valuable skills transfer opportunities to local talent. This initiative is expected to create numerous employment opportunities for Ghanaians, both within and outside the film industry.
Juliet Asante urged filmmakers worldwide to consider Ghana as a prime shooting location, citing the country’s successful “Shoot in Ghana” campaign and recent achievements in attracting high-profile productions. Ghana’s growing reputation as a filming destination was highlighted by the production of a notable Super Bowl advert shot in the country.
