Love & New Notes (2026) opening weekend feat significantly replicates the success of Timini Egbuson’s debut and previous project Reel Love, which grossed N99.2 million as the biggest opening Valentine title of all time in 2025.

Timini Egbuson has set an unprecedented record with his second big-screen title, Love & New Notes, which grossed N106 million to become the biggest opening weekend of 2026 at the Nigerian Box Office.

Released within a similar Valentine timeframe as Egbuson’s cinema debut, Reel Love (N99.2 million), which was the Strongest Opening Valentine’s Film of All Time in 2025, Love & New Notes now arguably stands as the current holder of the same record-breaking title.

As Egbuson announced, this makes Love & New Notes, directed by his frequent collaborator Kayode Kasum, the first Nollywood film to open at over N100 million outside December. It is also the highest single-day gross for a 2026 release, earning N48 million on Valentine’s Day.

The Nollywood rom-com dominated the Nigerian Box Office’s Top 10 movies, earning the number one spot as the highest-grossing film of the weekend. Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes, follows in second place closing in on the N3 billion mark in its tenth week.

Love & New Notes’ record-breaking entry significantly impacted the opening of Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette’s sport animation, Goat (N6.7 million), in Nigeria despite its global box office acclaim. However, as International titles, Wuthering Heights (N15 million) starring Jacob Elordi and Crime 101 (N34.4 million) made notable opening impressions amid the competitive heat.

The Nigerian box office update also revealed To Adaego With Love’s uneven break after two weeks, earning only N14.9 million. Meanwhile, Everything is New Again has nearly reached N50 million, with a gross of N41.8 million, and is expected to hit the target within the week.
