Ndani TV is returning from a hiatus with a new romantic comedy series, Extra Love. The series follows a young couple navigating the demands of love while pursuing careers in Nollywood, continuing the platform’s tradition of relationship-driven and slice-of-life storytelling.
Written by Owumi Ugbeye and Mary Uyoh, Extra Love explores themes of love, friendship, ambition, family, and the ways relationships evolve as people’s lives change.
Speaking exclusively with The Nollywood Reporter, Ugbeye explained that the project began after Ndani TV’s head of production approached the writing duo with a brief. They spent several days developing the concept, workshopping the story, and refining multiple drafts before arriving at the final script.
The writer said much of the story draws from her own experiences in Nollywood. After beginning her acting career in 2013 shortly after completing NYSC and landing a lead role early on, she encountered the realities of sustaining a career in the industry.

Those experiences, alongside the journeys of friends and colleagues, helped shape the characters and emotional conflicts in Extra Love. According to Ugbeye, viewers who know her personally may recognize elements of her own story in the series.
She also acknowledged the expectations that come with writing for Ndani TV, whose previous productions, including Skinny Girl in Transit, Gidi Up, Game On, and Love Like This, built a loyal audience over the years.
“There was a lot of pressure because Ndani TV is well respected, and people love their content very much,” she said.
Despite that pressure, Ugbeye believes audiences will connect with the series because its themes are universally relatable.
“We each have experienced disappointments, heartache, and fighting for our dreams. I think the series will be well loved and appreciated,” she added.
Extra Love stars Tolu George and Mallum Arik in the lead roles, alongside Omosalewa Fafowora, Bryan Okoye, Obehi Aburime, Ayomide Iwasokun, and a supporting ensemble. The series premieres on YouTube on July 17.
