After a turbulent year of box office challenges, Warner Bros. Discovery extends the duo’s contracts following a $4 billion rebound.
Warner Bros. Renews Contracts of Studio Chiefs Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy
Warner Bros. Discovery has renewed the contracts of Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, co-chairs and CEOs of the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, following the studio’s strongest box office year since 2019.
The announcement came Wednesday as the studio crossed $4 billion in global ticket sales—the first studio to do so in 2025. In an internal memo, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav praised the executives for their “unwavering leadership and commitment,” highlighting the studio’s creative and commercial resurgence.
“We have a lot to be grateful for and much to celebrate, including several of this year’s best-reviewed movies, many of which have pierced the cultural zeitgeist while delighting moviegoers around the world,” Zaslav wrote.
Responding in a joint statement, De Luca and Abdy said: “We could not be more excited to be leading this team as we introduce an exciting slate of films in the coming years and continue making every film experience an event worthy of the Warner Bros. shield.”
The renewal marks a major turnaround for the duo, who faced scrutiny last year following the underperformance of Joker: Folie à Deux and Mad Max: Furiosa. Their leadership was again questioned earlier this year after Mickey 17 failed commercially, prompting speculation that Zaslav would pivot toward franchise-heavy projects.
However, the tide has shifted in recent months. Warner Bros. now reports its best U.S. box office year on record, bolstered by hits such as A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Superman, Weapons, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and One Battle After Another. With these results, De Luca and Abdy have secured their positionsand the studio’s renewed momentum.
