Emmanuel Adejo’s award-winning film will screen at the festival in September.
“Isekonu” Earns Spot at Ibadan International Film Festival
Isekonu, written and directed by Emmanuel “Story Priest” Adejo, has been selected for the fourth edition of the Ibadan International Film Festival (IIFF), scheduled for September 18–21 at The Bunker, Ibadan.
Produced under the MultiChoice Talent Factory West Africa program, the film examines widowhood rites still practiced in some communities. It follows Iyore, a young widow accused of infidelity after her husband’s mysterious death. Determined to prove her innocence, she submits to traditional rituals while confronting painful truths from her past.
This year’s IIFF, themed “Story Meets Strategy,” will feature screenings, masterclasses, networking sessions, and cultural discussions. The festival received a record number of submissions across feature films, documentaries, shorts, animations, and experimental works.
Isekonu joins a lineup that includes Something About the Briggs, Miss PJ, The Interrogation of Lotana, Telephone, Ebrohime Road, and The Island. The festival aims to position Ibadan as a creative hub while fostering cross-cultural dialogue through cinema.
The three-day event will close with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievements in African and international filmmaking.
