“The Other Side of the Bridge” Debuts With ₦14.1M

Fiyin Gambo’s boxing drama posts second-best opening of the weekend

Fiyin Gambo’s boxing drama The Other Side of the Bridge opened with ₦14.1 million at the Nigerian box office over the weekend, including ₦1.3 million from preview screenings.

 

Released on April 17, 2025, the film entered a crowded weekend lineup featuring three other new titles; Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (₦18.1 million), Normal (₦7.1 million), and Bhooth Bangla (₦5.4 million). Despite the competition, it recorded the second-highest debut among new releases for the April 17–19 weekend.

 

Overall, the film ranked fourth on the weekend chart, behind The Return of Arinzo (₦28.8 million), You, Me & Tuscany (₦20.7 million), and The Mummy. It also trailed established titles such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which earned ₦12.5 million in its third weekend.

 

The film had earlier made its festival debut at AFRIFF 2024 in Lagos, screening on November 4 at The Palms. Written by Tamara Aihie and Emil Garuba, and set in Lagos, it follows a former teenage boxing champion, Femi, who attempts to return to the ring to save his trainer’s gym and rebuild his life.

 

Demi Banwo leads the cast as Femi, alongside Tobi Bakare, Ireti Doyle, Femi Branch, Olarotimi Fakunle, Gbubemi Ejeye, William Benson, Teniola Aladese, Mike Afolarin, Seun Ajayi, Chisom Mbonu Ezeoke, Njoku Udoka, Awe Ayobami, and Lasisi Elenu.
