The future of Hulu’s FX epic series “Shogun” shines brighter than ever after its record-breaking achievement of 18 Emmy wins.

Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, “Shogun” reimagines James Clavell’s 1975 novel, based on a true story set in early 17th-century feudal Japan.

At the 2024 Emmys, “Shogun” made history by securing 18 awards, the most ever won by a show in a single year. This accomplishment solidifies its status as the standout series of 2024.

Among its impressive accolades are major wins for Best Drama—the first predominantly non-English language series to achieve this honor—along with Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, respectively. The series also received awards for Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Picture Editing.

Prior to this historic win, “Shogun” was already slated for a second and third season, despite initial hesitations from producers regarding its future due to the original novel’s conclusion.

Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, along with Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, are set to return for filming of the second season in 2025.
