“Clean Slate,” a fresh, black-led comedy series, will premiere on Feb. 6, 2025, on Prime Video.
It centers around Harry Slate (George Wallace), an old-fashioned car wash owner from Alabama whose world turns upside down when his estranged child, whom he always thought was his son, returns to Mobile as a confident trans-woman named Desiree (Laverne Cox).
Desiree’s arrival pushes Harry to confront his Christian beliefs as they navigate their newly rekindled relationship under the same roof. Together, they embark on a journey of reparation, healing, and soul-searching.
Desiree’s return also shakes up her former church community as they grapple with the new outward change, and it complicates her relationship with her childhood best friend Louis (D.K Uzochukwu), who struggles to accept her as a woman. Added to the mix is the budding yet complicated romance between Desiree and her father’s employee Mack (Jay Wilkinson).
Relationships aside, Desiree is on a mission to return to her former glory. The art gallery she owned in New York closed down due to low funding, so she sought to open one in her small town. The series will explore whether that dream materializes.
Other notable cast members recurring in “Clean Slate” are Telma Hopkins, Phillip Garcia, and Norah Murphy.
“Clean Slate” was created by the trio of Cox, Wallace, and Dan Ewen, who also serve as executive producers alongside Brent Miller, Simran Baidwan, and legendary filmmaker Norman Lear, who sadly passed away in 2023; “Clean Slate” serves as one of Lear’s final projects.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are producers for the series, which is scheduled for an eight-part run on Prime Video.
“Clean Slate” comically aims to make the audience understand the struggles of trans people in an evolving society.
