Five Times Omowunmi Dada Made the Nollywood Bride Her Own

Omowunmi Dada has played several characters whose stories centre around marriage, weddings and the expectations placed on women.

Omowunmi Dada has appeared in several Nollywood stories where weddings and marriage are central to the plot. Across these roles, the actress has played women dealing with family expectations, cultural traditions, romantic uncertainty and the pressure surrounding marriage.

Her characters have not all approached marriage in the same way. Some are preparing for weddings, others are searching for partners, while another finds herself caught between family and cultural expectations.

Following her role in A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story, here are five films that have placed Dada in or around the world of brides and marriage.

A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story (2026) – Demilade

In the recently released A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story, directed by Femi Adebayo and produced by Folagade Banks, Dada plays Demilade, a bride preparing to marry Femi, played by Rotimi Salami.

In A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story, Omowunmi Dada plays Demilade, a bride whose disappearance days before her wedding drives the film’s central conflict.
In A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story, Omowunmi Dada plays Demilade, a bride whose disappearance days before her wedding drives the film’s central conflict.

Demilade is presented as a privileged young woman who is protected by her mother and has grown up without experiencing many hardships. Her quiet and reserved personality contrasts with Femi’s history of promiscuity.

The film centres on the chaos surrounding a wedding, with romance, secrecy and family tensions complicating the preparations. Demilade’s disappearance just days before the wedding becomes one of the story’s central conflicts.

The film also marks Kava TV’s first original feature-length production.

Where Is Mr Right? (2026) – Funmi

In Funke Akindele’s Where Is Mr Right?, available on Prime Video, Dada plays Funmi, an independent event planner who has built a successful life but remains without a husband.

In Where Is Mr Right?, Omowunmi Dada plays an independent woman whose desire for marriage reflects the pressure placed on unmarried women.

Unlike the other roles on this list, Funmi is not married in the film. Her relationship with the idea of marriage, however, becomes central to her story.

Pressured by her desire to settle down, Funmi goes to church wearing a wedding gown as she hopes to meet the man she believes she is meant to marry.

Through Funmi, the film explores the social expectations surrounding marriage and the lengths to which some women may go when they feel pressured to find a partner.

Ada Omo Daddy (2023) – Perosola

Dada plays Perosola Balogun in Ada Omo Daddy, a woman preparing for marriage while dealing with a complicated family history.

Perosola is portrayed as responsible and hardworking, with a wedding that brings together the different sides of her family. Her plans are disrupted when a secret about her background comes to light.

The story places her between the father who raised her and the biological family she discovers later, making her wedding part of a larger conflict involving family, identity and culture.

Dada’s role gives the film a bride whose personal choices become entangled with questions about where she belongs.

Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman (2022) – The Bride

In Biyi Bandele’s Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman, adapted from Wole Soyinka’s play Death and the King’s Horseman, Dada appears as part of the story’s wedding sequence.

The film places the bride within the Yoruba cultural setting surrounding Elesin Oba’s final hours. Her presence is connected to the character’s earthly desires and the traditions surrounding his expected transition into the afterlife.

The role is different from Dada’s contemporary wedding characters. Rather than focusing on modern relationship pressures, it places her within a story shaped by Yoruba customs, duty and communal expectations.

Her appearance also shows the different contexts in which Dada has been cast within stories involving marriage and traditional ceremonies.

Meeting Funmi’s Parents – Funmi

In Meeting Funmi’s Parents, Dada plays Funmi, a woman preparing to introduce her foreign boyfriend to her traditional family.

As the relationship moves towards marriage, Funmi finds herself caught between her romantic relationship and the expectations of her family. A former lover’s return adds another complication.

The film uses the relationship to explore differences in culture, family expectations and the tensions that can emerge when two families have different ideas about marriage.

Funmi’s story places Dada once again at the centre of a narrative where a wedding represents more than a romantic commitment. It also becomes a meeting point for family, culture and personal choices.

Across these roles, Dada’s characters approach marriage from different directions. Some are preparing for weddings, some are searching for relationships, while others are navigating family and cultural expectations.

The recurring wedding and marriage roles also show the range of characters Dada has played within Nollywood’s relationship stories. Rather than repeating the same bride, each film places her in a different situation and gives marriage a different function within the story.

Her latest role in A Mama Deola’s Wedding Story adds another bride to that growing list, continuing a pattern that has appeared across her filmography.
