Having already claimed the title of highest-grossing anime of all time and even surpassing Superman at the global box office, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle continues to scale new heights.
The Crunchyroll-distributed anime saw a 15% increase in audiences in its 12th weekend on home turf (Japan), grossing $3 million in the process. Hitting $242.6 million (¥35.78 billion in local currency) and reaching 24.8 million admissions, Infinity Castle beats Spirited Away as both the second-highest-grossing and second most-watched movie in Japan,
Across the Pacific, North America remains a stronghold. The film pulled in a genre-best $3.5 million fourth weekend, falling 50% from Weekend 3. Allied to $124 million from the U.S. and Canada and an additional $274 million from other international markets, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has reached an impressive $642 million global cumulative gross as of October 5, according to analyst Luiz Fernando.
This takes it past F1:The Movie ($627.9 million) and How To Train Your Dragon ($635.5 million) as the fifth-highest-grossing film of the year.
Without an official Chinese-wide release, Infinity Castle will likely be stuck in this position, seeing as the next competition to beat, Jurassic World: Rebirth, sits at a far-reaching $866 million. Still, the film’s trajectory remains a monumental achievement both for the Demon Slayer franchise and for anime cinema at large.
