James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is nearing a major milestone at the U.S. box office: the coveted $400 million mark.
Industry analyst Luiz Fernando reports that the film earned $1.8 million domestically in its 10th weekend, a 49.5% drop from last weekend’s $9.4 million, despite losing 315 theaters. This brings its cumulative U.S. gross to $399.4 million, which likely crossed $400 million by the time of this report.
This achievement places Avatar: Fire and Ash among only 54 films in U.S. box office history to surpass the $400 million mark. Notably, Cameron’s Titanic was the first film to reach this milestone, while Star Wars: The Force Awakens remains the highest-grossing domestic film at $936.7 million, followed by Avengers: Endgame ($858.4 million) and Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.9 million).
While Fire and Ash is still below the domestic grosses of Avatar ($785.2 million) and Avatar: The Way of Water ($684.1 million), it has set its sights on other benchmarks.
Coupled with its $1.07 billion international cume (including $5.3 million from its 10th weekend), the film’s global total stands at $1.47 billion. It is now just $3 million shy of overtaking Top Gun: Maverick’s $1.5 billion, positioning it to claim the 15th spot on the list of all-time highest-grossing films worldwide.
