Rema and Tyla have been confirmed as performers at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.
FIFA announced the lineup ahead of the ceremony scheduled for June 12 at the Los Angeles Stadium, beginning 90 minutes before kick-off at 4:30 p.m. local time. The event will also feature performances from Katy Perry, Future, Anitta and LISA.
The appearance places Rema and Tyla among a small group of African artistes featured on one of the biggest stages in global sports and entertainment, further reflecting the growing international reach of African music.
The 2026 edition will mark the first FIFA World Cup to stage three separate opening ceremonies across its three host nations; the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The celebrations begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where Tyla is also expected to perform alongside Latin music acts including J Balvin, Maná, Alejandro Fernández and Belinda.
Canada’s opening ceremony follows on June 12 at BMO Field, with performances from Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara and Nora Fatehi.
Nigeria’s presence at the tournament also extends to the official soundtrack, with Burna Boy collaborating with Shakira on the tournament song, “Dai Dai,” scheduled for release on May 14.
The tournament will run from June 11 to July 19, featuring an expanded format of 48 teams and 104 matches across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The final will take place at MetLife Stadium on July 19.
