Organisers of the FujiFilm Short Film Festival in collaboration with Cinema Akil and Gulf Photo Plus (GPP) have announced a call for submissions as the festival returns to Dubai for the second time in December.
The festival seeks film projects that fall into one of its four major categories including narrative shorts, documentary shorts, student shorts and experimental shorts.
According to the organisers’ recent announcement, selected films will be screened at Cinema Akil during the festival, with award-winning works continuing on to arthouse cinema screenings across the region.
The festival is open to films produced in countries currently served by Fujifilm Middle East and eligible for awards. For the Middle East, it includes Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
For Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Georgia are part of the countries covered. On the other hand, African countries include Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Uganda, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, and Tunisia.
The FujiFilm Short Film Festival invites audiences to explore new talents through a selection of carefully curated short films. The event is set for December 12 to December 13, 2025.
As a platform which champions emerging filmmakers, some of the festival’s notable previous winning films include All This Death by Fadi Syriani, which won Best Narrative short. I Told You So, a documentary by Malak Alsayyad, and Nsala by Mickael-sltan None winning Best Experimental short.
