Academy Award-nominated Ugandan filmmaker and journalist Moses Bwayo is set to direct Champions of Nowhere, a new feature documentary that launches a three-picture co-production partnership between Pierce Capital Entertainment (PCE) and Munich-based FilmCrew Media.
Best known for Bobi Wine: The People’s President, Bwayo will helm the project through his Los Angeles-based Jajja Productions. Set in Kenya’s Kakuma Refugee Camp, the documentary centers on the Kakuma Football League and the community that has found identity, resilience, and hope through the game.
Speaking about the project, Bwayo said the film captures the transformative power of sport within one of the world’s largest refugee settlements.
“The once-desolate semi-desert now basks in hope, identity, dignity, and a fighting spirit that speaks the universal language of sports.”
He added that Champions of Nowhere is a testament to what football, determination, and community can achieve even in the most challenging circumstances.
The documentary also builds on FilmCrew Media’s connection to the region following its work on Nawi: Dear Future Me, the Kenya-set drama about child marriage that became the country’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards and went on to earn international recognition
