Amazon MGM Studios has officially confirmed that the political romance drama “Red, White & Royal Blue” has been greenlit for a sequel. Though plot details and an official release date remain under wraps, the new film will be titled Red, White & Royal Wedding.

According to the worldwide teaser, a wedding appears to be in the future for Prince Henry and Alex played by Nicholas Gallitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez, respectively who won hearts back in 2023 with their whirlwind, star-crossed romance that stirred both the British royal palace and American politics.

The sequel will be directed by Emmy Award-nominated filmmaker Jamie Babbit and produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, who return to the franchise. Michael McGrath, Matthew Lopez, and Jennifer Salke also serve as producers, while Casey McQuiston and Michael Constable will executive produce.

The script for Red, White & Royal Wedding is penned by Lopez, Gemma Burgess, and McQuiston—the author of the bestselling novel Red, White & Royal Blue, on which both the first film and this upcoming sequel are based.

Gallitzine and Perez are confirmed to reprise their roles, along with Uma Thurman, who will return as Alex’s mother and the President of the United States. The rest of the cast will be announced at a later date.

Red, White & Royal Blue premiered on Prime Video in the summer of 2023, and followed the surreptitious romance between Alex, the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry of Britain. It was praised by fans and critics alike for its heartfelt representation of love within the LGBTQIA+ community. It scored an impressive 92% on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter, a strong indicator of the audience’s warm reception. At the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, the film earned a nomination for Outstanding Television Movie but ultimately lost to Hulu’s “Quiz Lady.”
