“Jagun Jagun,” “Adire,” and “The Weekend” Earn Multiple Nominations at Best of Nollywood Awards”

The Best of Nollywood Awards has unveiled its 2024 nominees, celebrating the films that captivated audiences and the talents that brought them to life.

 

With fan favorites like “Jagun Jagun”, “Adire”, and “The Weekend” securing top nominations, the award show appears to be a reflection of the best in Nollywood this year.

 

“Jagun Jagun”, the Yoruba epic directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani, premiered on Netflix in 2023 and gained widespread acclaim for its historical storytelling and stellar casting. The film leads the pack with twelve nominations, showcasing its continued impact on the industry.

 

“Adire”, a  2023 drama, follows closely with four nominations, including a nod for Nollywood star Kehinde Bankole, who is up for Best Actress. The film has been praised for its compelling narrative and strong performances.

 

Meanwhile, Daniel Oriahi’s psychological thriller “The Weekend”, which debuted at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, continues its awards momentum with a nomination for Oriahi in the Best Director category. The film’s intense storyline and dynamic direction have made it a standout this season.

 

The Best of Nollywood Awards is set to take place in Kwara State on Nov. 24, 2024, with actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi as the host of the ceremony.
