In a notice posted on its official Instagram page on October 18, AGN announced the indefinite suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar.
According to the Guild, a two-year investigation revealed that Abubakar had been spreading defamatory information about AGN members, associates, and patrons, particularly linking high-profile individuals to extramarital affairs within the industry.
As a result, she is barred from participating in any AGN-related film activities during her suspension, with the National Disciplinary Committee tasked with determining her final punishment. The Guild also hinted that other actresses are under investigation for similar misconduct.
In a subsequent notice on October 19, AGN publicly denied rumors that they had placed “Senator Akpabio’s alleged side chicks on a watchlist.” The Guild identified news platforms “Opera News” and “The Whistler” as the sources of this false information, accusing them of distorting facts to tarnish the Senate President’s reputation.
AGN clarified that its original internal notice concerning Abubakar’s suspension was unrelated to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and only referenced disciplinary action against an erring member. The Guild further emphasized that the individuals on their watchlist are those responsible for spreading damaging rumors, not alleged “side chicks.”
The AGN demanded retractions and public apologies from the bloggers involved, with the notice signed by AGN National President Ejezie Emeka Rollas and National Secretary Abubakar S. Yakubu.
