Netflix Renews British Superhero Series “Supacell” for Second Season

Netflix has announced the renewal of the British superhero series “Supacell” for a second season, two months after its initial debut.
The streaming giant made the announcement on Aug. 13, 2024, via its official social media channels, confirming the return of the show that captivated audiences with its fresh take on the superhero genre.
“Supacell” follows five ordinary individuals from South London who unexpectedly develop superpowers. United only by their race, they are brought together by Michael Lasaki, who recruits them to save his fiancée.
Created by British rapper-turned-filmmaker Rapman, who also serves as director and executive producer, the series stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Eddie Marsan, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, and Rayxia Ojo.
The first season garnered critical acclaim and audience praise for its innovative storytelling and unique perspective on black superheroes. It topped Netflix’s Top 10 English Language TV Charts for two consecutive weeks.
As of June 30, 2024, “Supacell” had amassed 33.5 million views on the streaming service, with 6.4 million hours viewed, solidifying its position as a breakout hit.
The renewal comes amid Netflix’s ongoing efforts to diversify its content and tap into global storytelling perspectives. With its success, “Supacell” joins a growing list of international series finding a worldwide audience on the platform.
