The Nigerian film “Farmer’s Bride” officially premieres in cinemas today, September 27, 2024, and in a notable development, the movie will also be released in nine Francophone African countries, marking its entry into a wider audience across the continent.

FilmOne Entertainment, the distributor, announced the expansion earlier this week through an Instagram post. “We are excited to announce that #FarmersBrideMovie isn’t just taking over Nigeria—it’s going international! Starting Sept 27th, we’re hitting cinemas across all Francophone countries!” the post read.

The film will be screened in Senegal, Benin Republic, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Congo, among other countries. This international release highlights the growing reach of Nigerian films and the intention to connect with audiences beyond the country’s borders.

“Farmer’s Bride”, directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme, is set in 1980s Ibadan. The story follows Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer, who marries a young woman, Funmi. Their marriage, however, faces difficulties as Funmi embarks on an affair with Odun’s nephew, leading to a dramatic turn of events involving betrayal and supernatural consequences.

The film features a strong lineup of Nigerian actors, including Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola.

With its storyline and well-known cast, “Farmer’s Bride” aims to attract attention both at home and across Francophone Africa.
