After selling “Go!” to Netflix, South African showrunner Kutlwano Ditsele has unveiled an ambitious investor target of 250 million rand ($13.7 million) to scale up operations at his production company, Ten30 Pictures.
Ditsele, known for his work on MultiChoice hit dramas like “Gomora” and “The Herd”, is making his return to television with “Go!”, which premiered on March 21. His funding goal is part of a broader strategy to establish Ten30 Pictures as a major player in African filmmaking.
“The biggest thing is to have an identity that says these stories are different from what’s already out there. Now our job is scaling and looking around the country for filmmakers who are making interesting things and have an interesting voice,” Ditsele said on March 19 while announcing his investor target.
The ambitious budget is geared toward turning Ten30 Pictures into what he describes as “the A24 of Africa,” with plans to produce 30 films over the next decade.
Ditsele’s latest Netflix deal also highlights the ongoing partnership between the streaming giant and South African filmmakers, further cementing the country’s place in global entertainment.
