Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has postponed the release of her music video “Burning” in support of ongoing nationwide protests in Nigeria.
She made the announcement via her X account on Wednesday. “Out of respect for the ongoing protest at home, I have decided to postpone the release of ‘Burning’ music video,” Tems wrote. “Praying for the safety of those outside at this time. May the voice of the people be heard.”
The video for “Burning,” the third track from her album “Born In The Wild,” was originally slated for release on Aug. 1, coinciding with the start of planned 10-day protests against government policies in Nigeria.
Tems’ decision came after fans urged her to reconsider the timing, given the protests’ significance. The demonstrations address issues of bad governance and other public grievances.
The singer has not yet announced a new release date for the video. Given the protests’ scheduled duration, the earliest potential release could be around Aug. 10
