Afropop sensation Yemi Alade will lend her voice to the theme song of “Iyanu,” a Nigerian animated superhero series slated for release in 2025.
The 35 year old artiste revealed her involvement in a video on Lion Forge’s YouTube channel. “I’ve been asked to sing the theme song for the incredible animated series Iyanu,” she said. “This is my love message, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”
The “Mama Africa” singer will collaborate with lead composer Femi Agunbiade and creative teams from Lion Forge Entertainment and Alcon Sleeping Giant for the track.
“Iyanu,” adapted from Roye Okupe’s graphic novel “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” is set in a magical Yorubaland. The series follows a teenage orphan who discovers newfound powers while studying Yoruba history and ancient arts.
Serah Johnson voices the titular character, with Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Stella Damasus, Blossom Chukwujekwu, and Shaffy Bello rounding out the cast.
The animated series is slated for a 2025 release on Cartoon Network and Max in the United States, and Showmax in 44 African markets.
Alade’s selection aligns with her history of promoting African culture through her music. She previously contributed to Beyoncé’s “Lion King: The Gift” soundtrack in 2019, co-writing and performing on two tracks.
In January, Alade performed at the opening ceremony of the Africa Cup of Nations football tournament.
The singer recently released her sixth studio album, “Rebel Queen.”
